Commanding Officer, Captain Sean M. Mahoney, Coast Guard Air Station-Houston presents Southwest Airport Services with a certificate recognizing the cooperation and teamwork provided during the search and rescue efforts after Hurricane Ike.
Just prior to Hurricane Ike making landfall, a massive storm surge caught citizens off guard, and many requested to be hoisted out of harms way. Southwest Services' employees and facility provided an immediate forward operating base for Search and Rescue Units deployed for this urgent rescue effort. Southwest Services also provided a safe-haven for numerous survivors evacuated by Coast Guard Aircrews with no advance notice. In Ike's aftermath, as Coast Guard Air Station Houston reconstituted and began post hurricane operations, Southwest Services immediately ramped up to provide logistical support for countless response aircraft, ensuring uninterrupted search and rescue operations.
